This uncensored confession of an independent movie producer is being shared with readers that want to be in the entertainment business, are in the entertainment business, or are fascinated by the entertainment business that thrives outside of the glitz of celebrity. I am only one of many independent movie producers that work hard to make movies to feed their creative passion and pay their bills. Producing indie movies is always frustrating and extremely thrilling at the same time.

One the most frustrating jobs of any movie producer is finding film financing to produce an independent film that does not have known actors attached to the project. You are asking movie investors to back a project written by an unknown screenwriter that has no bankable celebrities attached, and that is being visually guided by a first time director or one with limited credits. That is a tough sell. The world is fascinated with celebrity and film investors are no different.

You can have a dynamite script, talented unknown actors, film director with vision, and your desire as an independent movie producer on your side, but without some kind of hook chances of finding film money will not happen. I have found myself in that position as a producer of independent entertainment. What did I do?

Honestly, as a producer I knew without stars attached to a project I had to include visual elements that would translate to worldwide audiences. I kicked up the violence, sex, and nudity aspects because they fit with the two projects I was producing. Both screenplays were written to realistically depict strong subject matters, human flaws, and graphic content based on characters that lived lurid lives.

Whatever type of project you have there is going to come a point, unless you are independently wealthy, where you are going to be confronted as an independent movie producer that you are going to have to compromise on what will be shown in order to get film investor backing. In one case I had an interested movie investor tell me flat out that she wanted the project to have a European film nudity flavor. She read the script and knew it well. The on-camera nudity and sex scenes should be tasteful, but hot in her opinion to appeal to an international audience of buyers and not only US viewers. I assured her that I would and she invested with her boyfriend.

The lesson learned is to always find different hooks for your movie that makes it attractive to the film investors you are pitching for funding. It could be a film investor is passionate about something that can easily be folded into the screenplay to appeal to them. Talented screenwriters, independent movie producers, and film directors are masters at being able to work in a plug or scene for specific investors. To me it is just like product placement done in major studio movies, but at the indie level it is a more personal pitch to individual movie investors.

Once an independent movie producer secures film financing for a project there is a rush that is indescribable. Each producer has a different reaction. That euphoria and high quickly disappears because now it is time to go to work. You are already exhausted from the grinding money hunt and then all stages of production begin. Next thing you know problems start to develop on set that can range from technical issues to cast and crew difficulties. Now you are thinking, “I am screwed!” As the independent movie producer it is your ass on the line for the money invested to complete the film.

Actors and crew can quit anytime during an independent film shoot. There is nothing immediately you can do as a gutsy film producer if they are not committed to honoring their actor’s agreement or crew agreement. This is not a studio production where you have the luxury of hiring an entertainment attorney to sue. The reality is there is not the time or money to go through that. Going to film investors that have bankrolled an indie movie to tell them production has shut down and you need more money to hire an entertainment attorney will end your career early.

An independent movie producer is basically alone to fix problems and take care of business to finish a project. That is not the ego of the movie producer’s mind coming out, it is a simple reality. When everything turns out good you are a superstar to cast, crew, and movie investors. When it goes to shit, you are a dung beetle in the eyes of everyone. The life of an independent movie producer is not for the timid.

Now you find yourself with a completed movie that you want a film distribution deal for. The hot indie entertainment buzzword is digital movie distribution. That is definitely where it is going and where independent movie producers will make money for their projects. As of right now digital movie distribution still is not up to speed to include indie produced entertainment in real cash revenue. Studios are still trying to figure out how it is going to work.

Like with any new technology you are going to have companies pop up that target independent movie producers. It makes sense. Without the talent and risk taking moxie of independent movie producers there is nothing for any distributor to sell outside of mainstream entertainment. Imagine how boring entertainment would be with only mainstream viewing choices.

This is where frustration turns to the extremely thrilling part of being an independent movie producer at the best time possible. DVD is not dead, but is slowly fading out. I look at declining DVD sales as a positive for indie producers. The truth is there are movie distributors that cater to independent cinema that will try to screw producers over financially by using DVD manufacturing and marketing fees as the weapon every chance they get. Not all are like that. Many are honest and fair with their accounting practices.

But there are always crooks, liars, thieves, and piles in every business you will deal with. That is a given in life as a whole. Giving it away for free or being shortchanged on royalty payments owed is not an option for me. I read Michael Moore is suing Harvey and Bob Weinstein, alleging that the two brothers used “classic Hollywood accounting tricks” to screw him out money he was owed. I have no idea on the real truth, but it shows if a millionaire filmmaker is worried about not getting paid, any independent movie producer better watch their ass too just in case.

The thrilling part of being an independent movie producer at the right time, which is right now, is digital movie distribution is opening up indie entertainment to a worldwide audience. This leads to more viewers and more money being earned by filmmakers. Profit is not a dirty word in my producer’s book. I am not independently wealthy or can afford not to make money from entertainment I produce. I see digital movie distribution as the best platform to distribute independent content and make money for investors, as well as the creators. Film review: John Carter

John Carter is a forthcoming science adventure movie which will be released in 2012, which is based on the heroic protagonist of the series of Barsoom by Edgar Rice. This film will be John Carter (played by Taylor Kitsch), which was once a captain Confederate, transported to Barsoom or Marte. Once he is there, he became involved with a conflict between the different nations of the planet that have Princess Dejah Thoris (played by Lyn Collins) and made Tarkas (played by Willem Dafoe) as their leaders. Throughout the film, will be the main actor is trying to save the planet of Barsoom and its people.

The film has been annotated by Michael Giacchino, produced by Lindsey Collins, Colin Wilson and Jim Morris, written by Michael Chabon, Mark Andrews and Andrew Stanton and has also been directed by Andrew Stanton. It can be revealed in this review of film that Walt Disney Pictures distributed the film, and is expected to be released in theaters on March 09, 2012 through the United States in IMAX 3D and 3D Digital formats. The filming of John Carter began in November 2009, and principal photography occurred in January 2010 to July 2010. This film is really the first time that you will be working in an adventure film alive, Andrew Stanton as his old work includes films animated Pixar WALL-e and Finding Nemo.

Also worth mentioning in this review of the film that the film was based on the novel ‘ Princess of Mars, “which is actually the first novel ever with the character of this adventure-filled man.” Originally, the novel was published by a magazine series in 1912; However, it was not until 1917 that was brought to book format. As with the movie, the novel tells with John Carter, who is a veteran of the American Civil War who has been transported to Barsoom or Marte. Shortly after arrival, Carter learns that the planet is in danger due to the limited availability of water and the atmosphere. He also discovers that the only way to save the planet is by forming a peaceful Alliance between all the inhabitants of the planet.

Andrew Stanton is very proud to call John Carter his directional debut of living and adventure based on the trailer of this film is very clear why trusts the film. Stanton knows how to transform great ideas into something worth watching; and although there was little information available about this film, critics believe that it will be one of the best films of the year 2012.

The end of the world has been a favorite subject of Hollywood for many years. But no film has shown so much destruction never before everything thanks to outside animation industry of this world that we have today. The effects of team are impressive and certainly complain about lack of reality.

Any other movie that came close to 2012 is “the day after tomorrow” made by the same director Roland Emmerich. His vision on the destruction is backed by scientific study, but he always finds some way to save the human race. Thus, people believe that the world would end one day? If you go the topical issues such as climate change, global warming, possibility of asteroids hitting the Earth and perhaps increased tension between different countries may cause another world war. Jeremiah the Prophet have said it is nearing the end and it will happen according to the desire of our Lord.

Calendar of the Maya, said that the land be completed 26,000 revolutions around the Sun in 2012. There are calendars were made for this year only after the predicted doomsday. Another indication is that “Last supper” of Leonardo Da Vinci painting revealed a new planet is on the way. Some experts also believe that Judas will come on Earth as the way to another planet and collide as a final result of all living beings.

The end of the film is going to disappoint a few people but the experience is one of the types. Every form of natural force is working against us. Earthquakes, floods, twisters, name all they appear. According to me, 2012 is the best disaster movie ever made.

For those living in, or visiting the Evergreen area, here are some picks for local theaters:

AMC Bergen Park 7 Theater in Evergreen – This theater is within the Evergreen city limits, located at Evergreen Parkway and Bergen Parkway. It is a good choice for people who do not enjoy big crowds, allowing someone to be able to pick and choose a seat to his or her liking. It is also a good choice for those who might be more choosy about the comfort of the seating – known to be quite comfortable. I was not able to locate much information on this theater in terms of consumer reviews, and what I did find was negative regarding the upkeep of the theater and the comfort of the seating.

For those seeking out a great experience for movies in Evergreen, CO (or close to that area), the first two theaters listed above are probably your best bet – and hopefully some changes will be made to improve the experience at the third pick to allow more options to residents and visitors.

Sure the lights dim a bit better than before, but there is still a certain element that can be worked on, and I think I have just the answer.

Movie Theaters for 2011 should have new lighting systems that correspond with the stunning effects of their theater. To do this, two different lights come to mind.

The first lighting system is LED Lights. We have all heard of LED Lights, but why could they make the movie going experience better? LED Lights have a certain quality about them, which makes them perfect for a theater room. LED’s can be nearly any color imaginable, but they can also change colors as well. New age LED Lights have a red, green and blue LED light inside each bulb, which allows them to change to nearly any color imaginable by combining the lights in various degrees of brightness. Consider the effect the movie theater would have if each lighting fixture was changed out with a color changing LED Lighting fixture, and you would have a movie theater even James Cameron would be proud of. At the start of each movie, you could have a color that corresponds with the theme of the theater, but when the movie ends, and the up lights come on, you can turn the entire theater the cool teal color of the TRON world.

The second lighting system is EL Wire. EL Wire is a new lighting technology which is simply a copper wire with a powder coating over it that lights up. It comes in 10 beautiful colors and is pretty much made for movie theaters. EL Wire can line the stage, the walls, or even the walkways up the steps and isles. This can allow movie goers a safer passage, along with a fun lighting that will keep them coming back for more. EL Wire is waterproof, and can be stepped on, which makes it an ideal environment for movie theaters.

As we are moving into a digital age, these two lighting sources can help reface the way movie theaters look, and expand their markets.

50′s Drive in Movie Theaters

For those who were children or teenagers during the 1950s and 1960s, the drive in movie was the place to be on a summer evening. The classic drive in movie setup had a large screen set up outdoors. Sometimes this was a true screen, while other drive in theaters utilized the side of a building. A projection booth in the back created the image on the screen. Drive in movie theaters consisted not of seats, but of a large parking lot for cars. The sound was provided either by loudspeakers or by individual speakers designed to be hung from the window of each car. Some drive in movie theaters were set up to broadcast the audio by radio, and could be listened to through the car’s radio system rather than a separate speaker.

Drive in movies always had a concession stand for sodas, hot dogs, popcorn, candy, and all of the typical movie concessions still sold in today’s indoor theaters. Some added lawn chairs on patios in addition to the space for drive-in customers. Others offered propane heaters or other systems designed to entice customers to come to their theater, especially during the winter months.

The first drive-in theater had an unusual beginning as the brainchild of Richard M. Hollingshead Jr., whose family owned the R.M. Hollingshead Corporation Chemical Plant. In 1932 he began testing his idea of outdoor theaters in New Jersey, first by setting up a screen in his driveway and using this own Kodak movie projector.

Hollingshead was given a patent for his system in 1933. His first drive-in movie theater opened in Pennsauken, New Jersey, in June of 1933. Even though this first theater was only open three years, this family-friendly concept soon caught on in other locations. Similar theaters opened within two years in Pennsylvania, Galveston, Los Angeles, and Massachusetts. Soon, drive-in theaters were operating in nearly every state. There were about 100 of these theaters nationwide by World War II; as soon as the war ended, there were hundreds more, and the drive-in craze kept expanding.

Drive-in movie theaters were quite popular in part because they welcomed children to the show. In fact, many drive-in movie theaters added playgrounds or other attractions. Parents did not need to worry about their children interrupting the movie, or having to hire a babysitter to get an evening out.

The popularity of the drive-in theater peaked in the early 1960s, with around 4,000 drive-in theaters located across the United States. Drive-in theaters were increasingly being labeled as “immoral” because of the privacy the concept gave moviegoers. During the 1970s some drive-in theaters became less family-friendly, showing films targeted at adult moviegoers, or even pornographic films. In some areas, the land simply became too valuable to use as a drive-in theater, which usually operated only after twilight and only in the summer months. The drive-in theater also succumbed to other technology like color televisions and VCRs which became more popular modes for movie viewing.

Today, there are still a handful of drive-in movie theaters sprinkled throughout the United States. If you’re looking for a nostalgic time, watch a drive-in movie this summer. Today, this method for watching movies is still a great family activity. Many also go to drive-in theaters for the novelty of the experience. For those old enough to remember, and even for a new generation, there’s nothing quite like the drive-in movie experience. Along with other classic 50′s entertainment like pedal cars, sock hops, and soda fountains, the drive in theater stuck in people’s minds long after its 1950s heyday ended.
